Stacey Marjerrison is a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist at the McMaster Children’s Hospital, and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at McMaster University. Stacey is of mixed European descent, with ancestors who were settlers in Eastern Ontario. Stacey pursued her undergraduate and medical training at McMaster, Pediatric Residency at the IWK/Dalhousie University, Fellowship at SickKids, and a Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology & Health Care Research at the University of Toronto. Stacey is the Medical Director of the Oncology Late Effects Program, she holds the Ronald Barr Professorship in Pediatric Oncology, and is an Associate Member in the McMaster Department of HEI and the Institute for Health Equity.

Stacey was the Inaugural lead of the PMGE Indigenous Health Council. Her research work focuses on supportive care for children with cancer, and provision of care for children from equity-seeking groups, including Indigenous children in Canada. Stacey aspires to continue helping healthcare spaces to be safer for Indigenous patients and learners, alongside Indigenous partners in this work.

Curtis Sobchak is an Internal Medicine Resident at McMaster University. Curtis is of Mohawk background and was born in St. Catharines, Ontario. He is currently a fourth year General Internal Medicine fellow at McMaster University, and is continuously looking for ways to improve Indigenous representation and supports within medicine.

Josiah is Nehiyaw/Plains Cree originating from Saddle Lake First Nation in Alberta with family throughout the Prairies.  He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto and his MD at McMaster.  He is currently a resident in the Department of Anesthesia at McMaster.

At McMaster, Josiah is a member of Indigenous Health executive committees for both the UGME and PGME.  He sat on the hiring committee for McMaster’s Dean of Indigenous Health and is a key member of the Learning Lodge planning group.  Josiah is also closely involved in the Sioux Lookout and Weeneebayko Health Authorities in Northern Ontario.  He is closely involved in the pandemic planning and resource allocation for these regions and continues to work on elevating the standard of care for remote Indigenous communities.

Alysha is an Emergency Medicine resident at McMaster University. Alysha is Metis and was raised in  Nanaimo, British Columbia where she completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at the Vancouver Island University. She moved to Hamilton for her medical school training and graduated in the 2021 class from the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine Niagara Regional Campus.

Throughout medical school, Alysha was involved in the Indigenous Health Interest Group and helped coordinate the Indigenous Children’s Health Symposium in 2019. During this time, she also assisted with the Medical School Entrance Interview workshops for Indigenous students. In residency, she has been involved in the PGME Indigenous Health Council. Alysha is passionate about incorporating Indigenous health and awareness throughout her residency training.
