This grant aims to provide an opportunity for McMaster postgraduate medical trainees to connect and build friendships by assisting with the cost of social events, thereby improving overall trainee well-being.
We hope to support fun and relaxing events that allow for connection and conversation. Past resident groups have done pottery classes, boat tours, hiking, bowling, and dinners.
Trainees may apply for grant funding of $40 per attendee, up to $400 per event, at any time throughout the year
A minimum of 5 residents/fellows must attend the event. Groups of 20 or above may have access to additional funds upon review.
Typically only one event per program per year is funded; applications for additional events from larger programs will be considered.
The event must be planned and attended by McMaster residents/fellows only (no staff or faculty). Partners and families may also attend.
The grant is not intended to be used in combination with or to supplement other grants, funding, or events, such as orientation events or retreats that are run annually within programs. The grant is intended to support separate and new events organized by residents for residents.
The grant must be spent within 3 months of being awarded
Reimbursement can only be issued to one person – the grant applicant. Receipts paid by other parties cannot be reimbursed.
This grant cannot be used to pay for overnight accommodations, alcohol or gifts. Please use separate receipts if alcohol or gifts are purchased.
Partners and families may be involved in the event, but only resident/fellow costs will be reimbursed.
Only costs included in the original application will be reimbursed. Resident Affairs must be notified by email of any changes to the event post-approval.
After the event, you must send the following information to the Resident Affairs Team:
