Medical Trainees’ Knowledge of & Experiences with Delayed Childbearing, Infertility, and Fertility Preservation
You are invited to participate in an online survey for the research study, Medical Trainees’ Knowledge of & Experiences with Delayed Childbearing, Infertility, and Fertility Preservation: A Provincial Pilot Study of Residents and Fellows in Ontario, which is open to all residents and fellows in all years of postgraduate training enrolled in any training program across Ontario. This includes trainees who identify with any gender, sexual orientation, and relationship status. You may enter for a chance to win 1 of 20 $25 Amazon gift cards (optional draw).
Numerous studies have shown that physicians start their families later in life, and that female physicians are at increased risk of infertility, miscarriage, and recurrent pregnancy loss. Research in this area for medical trainees is limited, especially in the Canadian context. Given the coincidence of prime reproductive years with medical training, we believe it is crucial to evaluate how training environments can support or pose barriers to trainees in their reproductive planning and seeking of fertility care. We also aim to assess trainees’ knowledge of age-related fertility decline, fertility treatment options, and coverage available for trainees in Ontario.
The survey is voluntary, anonymous, and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You can withdraw at any time and data is confidential. Your participation will not affect your academic standing, and data surrounding any individual will not be published to protect individuals at smaller programs and sites. The study has been approved by the Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board (HiREB).
