Active McMaster University faculty or senior trainees are welcome to apply. Candidates are welcome from all McMaster campuses and distributed learning sites.

Program eligibility criteria for internal candidates:

• McMaster University faculty or senior trainee
• Current employment as a physician or enrolment in a senior postgraduate medical training position (i.e. resident or fellow)
• Any Royal College or Family Medicine certification or equivalent is eligible
• Evidence that current clinical practice will provide opportunities for direct supervision for educational activities required of each unit (i.e. has an adequate “teaching lab” in their current capacity)

External candidates are those who do not currently meet the internal program applicant category, but who are serving as physicians or trainees at a Canadian academic centre. Criteria for application via external route:

Program eligibility for external candidates:

• Must be affiliated with a Canadian faculty of Medicine or senior trainee
• Current employment as a physician or enrollment in a senior postgraduate medical training position (i.e. resident or fellow) with demonstrated proficiency and engagement in teaching
• Any Royal College or Family Medicine certification or equivalent is eligible
• Evidence that current clinical practice will provide opportunities for direct supervision of trainees and fulfillment of educational activities required of each unit (i.e. has an adequate “teaching lab” in their current capacity)

An application must include the following items:

• Personal statement (3 pages maximum, size 12 font, ½ margins at minimum) including EDI reflection
  • We would like to hear in your own words your motivation for applying to the McMaster CE Program and your plan to complete the program while carrying clinical and academic responsibilities in the following 3 years
  • In addition, in line with McMaster University’s policy on selection, we invite you to share how you envision you will support equity and inclusion to our community, as well as encourage the diversification of ideas and perspectives. 
• Two (2) letters of recommendation. 
  • Each application should have one letter from a local leader (division director, chief, chair, program director if resident) and one from a clinician educator familiar with your work.
  • It is mandated that referees use our Standard Letter of Recommendation
  • Note for external candidates: one of these two letters must be completed by a LOCAL mentor whom would be willing and qualified to mentor you throughout your training period (up to 3 years)
• Curriculum Vitae (updated)
• For external candidates: supervisor nomination component
  • As we will need to ensure that you have some adequate supervision at your home site, you will need to highlight a faculty member who will be able to meet with you regularly. 
  • One-page nomination letter for a LOCAL supervisor (include a short bio of who they are and why you have selected them)
  • CV of potential local supervisor
