The McMaster PGME Global Health “MacGlobal” course draws on the expertise and resources of one of Canada’s leading educational and research institutions to provide a forum for global health scholarship, innovation, and collaboration among medical residents across specialties.
The aim – provide interested PGME trainees with the knowledge and skills relevant to the practice of global health.
The course objectives – aligned with the CanMEDS and RCPSC core competency framework, emphasizing an understanding of global determinants of health, technical skills, advocacy, leadership, interdisciplinary collaboration and public health medical expertise.
The course is taught by leading McMaster faculty as well as local medical practitioners who have established international global health experience.
The MacGlobal course will deepen the understanding of global health issues and provide tangible skills that can be applied to futured global health work.
Course Format – The course is delivered as a series of 16 modules over the course of 10 months. Participants are required to attend 13 of the 16 modules to complete the course. Each module is composed of an interactive session 2-3 hours in duration.
7 core modules – mandatory and in-person
9 elective modules to choose from – mix of in-person and virtual
Completion of 6 electives modules required
Participants will receive approximately 36 hours of global health education
A certificate of completion will be given to residents who complete all 6 core and 6 elective modules of their choice
As part of the MacGlobal program, participants are required to read An Introduction to Global Health Delivery and write a 1-page reflection piece. The reflection is due June 1st, 2025.
Participants can chose one of the prompting reflection questions that will be provided to write about.
