Fatigue is recognized as an occupation risk in medical education that impacts residency training and workplace health and safety, with potential implications for patient safety.

The Committee is responsible for the strategic implementation a Fatigue Risk Management (FRM) education curriculum as well as the development of an FRM policy for the residency and fellowship programs at McMaster University.

The role of the Positive Learning Environment and Mistreatment (PLEM) Subcommittee is to ensure that situations of mistreatment involving postgraduate learners are identified and appropriately addressed and managed, and that situations in which residents and educators promote positive learning environments and/or prevent mistreatment of others are recognized and acknowledged.

The Resident Well-being Advisory Group provides the opportunity for residents and fellows to advise Resident Affairs on matters influencing their well-being and the activities of the Resident Affairs Office.

Our Goal:
To foster collaboration and two-way communication between trainees and the Resident Affairs office, in order to develop and continuously improve resources, strategies, programs and processes related to the well-being of postgraduate trainees at McMaster.

Racialized Residents at McMaster (RRAM) is a resident-led group with the following Vision and Mission:

Our Vision: 

A postgraduate medical education environment free of racism, discrimination, and injustice.

Our Mission: 

• Our main focus is on providing peer support to foster racialized learners’ wellness through group meetings. These meetings are only open to racialized residents in an effort to create a safe space to speak about their lived experiences.
• Growing a network of racialized staff physicians to help support racialized residents in their training and future careers.
• Supporting racialized residents who would like to formally raise concerns regarding mistreatment in training relating to their race/ethnicity.
• Creating a unified voice for racialized residents and completing advocacy work with the postgraduate medical education department.
