The main objectives of the PGME Indigenous Health Council are:
- Help provide learning opportunities for non-Indigenous residents across the residency programs in PGME, with support and guidance from the FHS Indigenous Learning Lodge and in accordance with the recommendations from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). This includes an introductory session in first year for all residents across PGME, and helping programs to curate potential speakers and program-specific learning opportunities for each of the residency programs.
- Create a support system for Indigenous residents in PGME, in conjunction with the PGME Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI) group and Student Affairs, linked to the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) Indigenous Learning Lodge. This includes informal mentorship, faculty feedback, as well as recruitment and retention of Indigenous residents.
